A surface seemingly ugly and weathered becomes a thing of beauty. When the walls of New York City subway stations are scraped to be painted layers upon layers of old paint are revealed. You are not only able to see the history of colors but also the grungy and beautiful patterns created by the scrapings. From afar it can be an off-putting site, but up close the hues and shapes are quite beautiful.
New York City is bustling, fast moving place and if you don't slow down the moments just pass you by. Thankfully my love for photography has allowed me to do just that through the years. It's a joy to really take in those details that would otherwise go unnoticed. The quest to capture my surroundings started much earlier though, when I was given my first camera at age nine. My initial and reluctant subject was my beloved and photogenic Irish Setter who tried to escape the clicking machine.
